They want to ensure there\u2019s healthy competition, and ensure that big players in the market are not abusing their powers for their own advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Invitations for comment have been issued with a deadline for responses set for the end of this month.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>About the online platforms and digital advertising study<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The online platforms and digital advertising market study is set to be broad, with a final deadline for a report to be published set for this time next year.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA has confirmed that they\u2019re looking into the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The power online platforms may have in user-facing markets, and the impact this may have on the consumer;<\/li>\n<li>The control (or lack of control) consumers have over data that\u2019s collected and used for online platforms and digital advertising;<\/li>\n<li>Whether competition may be distorted by market power held by platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can view the full CMA announcement and their statement of scope on their website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/cma-cases\/online-platforms-and-digital-advertising-market-study?utm_source=88b9338f-e235-48cf-9459-0a0e6b745e12&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=govuk-notifications&amp;utm_content=immediate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The importance of the study<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The online platforms and digital advertising market study is incredibly important.<\/p>\n<p>Although the issue of how data is collected and used is of course incredibly important in today\u2019s GDPR age, the power companies have and whether competition can be distorted is the important competition factor to assess.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA has confirmed that some of the concerns raised with them includes a lack of transparency in terms of how the market operates.
